'Dean of the Civil Rights Movement' Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery

The Rev. Joseph E. Lowery died on Friday March 27, 2020 at his home in Atlanta. He was 98 years young. Known to be a lieutenant to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, he helped organize a monumental moment in the civil rights movement, the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama that lasted from December 5, 1955 – December 20, 1956.



The Rev delivered the benediction in President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009, he was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama later that year.
