The Atlanta Opera presents “Porgy and Bess” at the Cobb Energy Centre. The movie classic was originally released June 23, 1959, starring Sidney Poitier as Porgy and Dorothy Dandridge played Bess. The movie according to its IMDb page, “A woman whose past is scorned by nearly everyone around her meets a man who’d love her regardlessly- if only everyone else would allow them to.”
The actors in the opera will be played by Morris Robinson who plays Porgy on March 7th, 8th, and 10th. On March 13th and 15th Porgy will be played by Musa Ngqungwana. The actress playing Bess is Kristin Lewis.
